This course will examine the GTCNI publication 'Teaching: the Reflective Profession' in the context of the DE policy 'Every School a Good School'.

The main emphasis will be on the implications of the Northern Ireland Teacher Competences for teaching and learning and professional practice. The practical utility of the competences will be considered for areas such as PRSD and School Development Planning. Furthermore, the importance of the competences for teachers' continuing professional development will be examined in detail. Participants will also engage in personal reflection and needs analysis.

Aims :

The aim of the course will be to consider the implications of the GTCNI publication Teaching: the Reflective Profession in the context of the DE policy Every School a Good School.

The course will focus on the Northern Ireland Teachers Competences and their implications for teaching and learning as well as professional practice.

Learning Outcomes :

1. Participants will be familiar with the GTCNI publication Teaching : the Reflective Profession.
2. Participants will be able to use the publication as an aid to School Development Planning and PRSD.
3. Participants will be able to plan for a whole-school policy for teachers' onging professional development using the Northern Ireland Teacher Copmetences.
4. Participants will engage in personal reflection and needs analysis.

This course will be useful for any teacher.

Presenter Bio :

Gerry Devlin is the Senior Education officer with the GTCNI. He worked on the development of the competences and the publication of 'Teaching: the Reflective Profession'. He has 26 year's teaching experience both in primary and post-primary and school leadership experience at both middle and senior management level.
