The Sports Leaders Award Courses are nationally recognised qualifications which can be used by schools as a vocational leadership course at Key Stage 4. Attendance of this RTU course qualifies the teacher as an accredited tutor, these tutors will then be able to offer courses to their students and students from schools within their Area Learning Communities. Pupils involved in these Leadership Awards will develop their knowledge, understanding and skills of sports leadership by planning, undertaking, monitoring and evaluating sports sessions, events and activities for different groups within the school and community. This course can help pupils develop as individuals, contributors to society and to the economy and environment. Tutors will also be informed about the processes required for assessment, quality assurance and the learning outcomes for students.
To encourage schools/teachers to implement Sports Leadership Award Courses with students aged 14 years and over. These courses are nationally recognised qualifications which can be offered to pupils to support the Revised Curriculum, Collaborative Learning, Pupil Leadership and as a vocational qualification through the Entitlement Framework.
By the end of the Programme participants will: • Have gained a knowledge of the content of the various Sports Leaders Awards. • Have understood how a Sports Leadership Award Course can complement other educational agendas i.e. Entitlement Framework, Revised Curriculum, Collaborative Learning and Pupil Leadership. • Have developed practical activities that will enhance leadership skills. • Have gained the necessary skills to implement Sports Leadership Courses.
Post Primary PE Teachers, Youth Sport Co-ordinators, Sports Development Officers, Youth Leaders.
The tutor for this course is the national training officer for Sports Leaders UK.
