CN65 : Understanding how the Brain Learns and the Application to Teaching and Learning (Fingerprint Learning)

Description :

Five stimulating interactive workshops will cover the role of the brain in learning and teaching using Powerpoint slides and your own personal workbook.

1. Introducing the structure and functions of the brain in relation to learning. Emotions and learning. Stress, depression and the brain.
2. The Grain of the Brain – reasons for different learning styles in pupils and teachers and examples in the classroom.
3. Working styles – discovering your own working style and those of your pupils and applying this to your teaching.
4. Right and left brain dominance in learning and teaching.
5. Discussion on practical applications of the workshops in the classroom.

Aims :

Five workshops during the day will explain the ways in which the brain is designed for learning and the reasons for individual variations in how people learn i.e. Learning Styles.

The workshops are designed to give each participant practical tools that can be applied in Primary and Post-Primary classroom teaching immediately.

Learning Outcomes :

The workbook provides each participant with a permanent record of the material presented. Teachers will gain personal awareness of their individual teaching styles and also how to recognise their pupils’ learning styles. They will receive practical advice on how to teach the various learning styles they encounter in class.

Target Group :

All teachers in primary and post primary education

Presenter Bio :

Medical doctor and specialist in brain-based Learning and Learning Styles. On list of consultants on learning styles with Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
