CN59 : Giving Great Presentations: Confidence & Skill Development (Synergym Training Limited)

Tutor :

Paul Gray

Description :

The course will consist of 3 workshops, addressing issues around the development of confidence and presentational skills.

Workshop 1
The first part of this workshop will address issues around self-confidence and self-esteem, considering fears and concerns around presenting. The second part will explore various strategies to address feelings of self-doubt and nervousness when presenting to others.

Workshop 2
This workshop will focus on the art of presenting. We will consider the common traits of great presentations. We will consider style and approach and discuss common pit-falls when presenting. We will then consider the types of audience and how this can influence the style and structure of a presentation. We will also look at strategies for handling difficult questions.

Workshop 3
During this practical workshop you will begin to put into practice the confidence strategies and presentational skills you considered in the earlier sessions. It is here that the real confidence and skill development will take place. Within this safe and secure environment you will have the opportunity to present, receiving feedback from the rest of the group.

Aims :

Within education we are increasingly being called upon to give presentations to our colleagues, parents, SMT and Governors. Most job interviews today have a requirement to present to the panel. For many this is a daunting task.

This course will seek to develop the confidence and essential skills you will need to give great presentations that effectively communicate your message and are engaging as well as inspiring for the audience.

Learning Outcomes :

1. Develop your level of self-belief and confidence when presenting.
2. Explore the structure and characteristics of a strong and effective presentation.
3. Become skilled and competent when presenting.
4. Produce a clear road map for further development.

Target Group :

The course is designed for all staff involved with education, whether primary or post-primary teachers, teaching assistants, CCEA or ELB officers.

Presenter Bio :

This will be the third year that I have delivered this course for the RTU, having also delivered it to the SELB. On all ocassions, evaluations have been outstanding. I hold a Masters degree with distinction in Organisation and Management and have 5 years experience of delivering presentations at both Board and National level through my work as a CCEA officer, as well as 8 years experience as a teacher. I am also the Managing Director of Synergym Training Limited, a company that specialises in personal and professional development in Northern Ireland.
