The course will be delivered through a variety of interactive sessions. Participants will gain a range of teaching strategies and ideas from within the Activ8 Eatwell programme. On completion of the course all participants will receive an Activ8 Eatwell Teachers’ Manual, an Activ8 Eatwell Teacher Checklist as well as copies of the Activ8 Eatwell Diaries for children to complete. The Activ8 Eatwell programme has been developed to complement and update an existing resource produced by CCEA - 'Living, Learning Together - Stay Healthy and Safe!' The main themes and activities provided in 'Stay Healthy and Safe' are explored in more detail throughout the Activ8 Eatwell programme. By doing so, the programme supports teachers to provide learning opportunities that will help plan, teach and assess the relevant statutory requirements for Key Stage 2 of the NI Primary Curriculum within both Personal Development & Mutual Understanding (PDMU) and Physical Education (PE). To ensure effective learning, the Activ8 Eatwell programme encourages teachers to use a range of teaching methods. Children’s understanding of the relationship between physical activity and healthy eating is promoted using a connected learning approach. Children participating in the programme are encouraged to lead healthy and active lifestyles by: - Being physically active. - Developing their physical literacy skills and a positive attitude towards physical activity. - Making informed and healthy choices about food intake. Parental involvement throughout and after the programme is encouraged through regular correspondence providing parents with vial information and ideas for home learning links.
