Training Today for Tomorrow’s School Leaders
In an effective school, everybody matters. Pupils, governors, parents, teachers and support staff all
contribute to the community of learning. But the person who steers the course and holds everything together
is the headteacher.
Schools need headteachers of ability, wisdom and vision. Excellence at the top will raise standards
throughout. That’s why the Professional Qualification for Headship in Northern Ireland, PQH (NI), exists:
to prepare the next generation of school leaders.
PQH (NI) is based on National Standards that set out the key knowledge, understanding, skills and
attributes for the key tasks of headship. PQH (NI) is part of the government’s drive to develop schools
that are better in every way. This is what our children deserve and that is what the best headteachers can foster.
