Target Audience - Primary Any teacher with an interest in developing their digital skills with a particular emphasis on music technology and sound recording technology to enhance existing classroom practice across the curriculum.
It would also be relevant to a Using ICT co-ordinator or Music co-ordinator who wants to develop these elements of the curriculum throughout their school.

This is a two-day workshop with hands on practical activities to explore and build confidence in working with digital sound technology such as simple Foundation Stage apps, online tools and GarageBand. There are a range of ideas and activities that can be used across the different year group in school to complement the CCEA resource Digital Audio: Music and Sound in the Primary Classroom.  It includes activities which are more musical and allow digital technology to be used as an accessible musical instrument. There are also other activities which focus on creating and editing sounds. The activities promote working in groups and encourage enjoyment of making music with others and promote participation, social inclusion and shared musical experiences. It is aimed at every teacher not just music specialists or ICT co-ordinators.

There is a focus on self-expression, identity, storytelling, critical thinking, reflection and the use of sound as a persuasive tool. The ideas and activities provided are ideally suited to integrate into existing education topics to enhance learning and collaboration. There are opportunities to consider how these skills can be used across the curriculum particularly in developing media skills such as interviewing and podcasting.

The training is designed to illustrate how these digital activities can develop educational outcomes described in the Shared Education Progression Pathway and can be managed practically with larger and smaller groups with ideas of how schools can use these technologies to continue shared working through face to face meetings and continued contact using online tools.

Day 1 and Day 2 will introduce you to a variety of techniques and skills using a variety of software and apps. You will also have time on Day 2 to consider how to plan for classroom projects. The workshop will include activities that can be used with tablet, PC and other types of hardware including the use of recording devices.
