Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) is a school improvement model that has grown in popularity as a means to build capacity, embed professional development, create a positive school culture, grow accountability, and increase student achievement.

'An effective professional learning community has the capacity to promote and sustain of all professionals in the school community with the collective purpose of enhancing pupil learning' - Louise Stoll.

Leadership is in this case is required is to maximise the capacity of the whole school as a learning community. It is a complex blend of motivation, skill, positive learning, orgnisational conditions and culture, and infrastructure of support. Put together it gives individuals, groups and ultimately whole school communities the power to get involved in and sustain learning.
